CHECKLIST

Hair, skin, teeth and nails! These four items -- believe it or not -- often get overlooked on the pre-portrait session itinerary! While you'll find no judgement here, your images may form hands around a gavel if you ignore them.

We respect the busy life and still recommend you take this time to schedule your hair and nail appointments. Ask your dentist about their preferred teeth whitening products. Get as much sleep as possible in the days leading up to your session and make sure you're drinking your water regularly!

The better you feel, the better you'll look. Read that again, but in Sheryl Lee Ralph's voice. Or the Men's Warehouse guy's voice.

WARDROBE

PREPARE.

DON'T FAIL.

Think really hard about whether getting that fancy new dress the night before your session is actually worth it. We've all seen the delivery industry have really, REALLY bad days. If ever possible, order it sooner.

AND!!!

Remember that you might have a stylish relative or friend who just happens to be your exact size in clothes and/or shoes! Utilize them as a resource if the Amazon-flavoured overnight glow-up is going to jeopardize your preparedness when it's time for your appointment.

Or, y'know, reschedule immediately.

WHEN IN DOUBT, REMEMBER:

TWO DAYS PRIOR

HAIR

Getting your hair done on the same day of your session is not advised. The sweet spot for a great head of hair is 24-36 hours before your close-up.

NAILS

Please clean, trim and file your nails prior to your session (get those cuticles, too)!

SKIN

Please have any treatments/procedures complete no sooner than 48 hrs before your session. Be sure to avoid new products as well, and if you can, let us know about any skin allergies you may have.

TEETH

Teeth whitening, if that's your thing, is best when completed 2-3 weeks prior to your session. But we're also not dentists, so please consult your medical professionals for more details.

FLATS

For any and everybody who read this and went -- I know that's right! -- we see you. And this actually applies to both men and women: Arrive in comfortable, non-elevated shoes, maybe even beat-up. If you're renting fashionable footwear or purchasing brand new kicks for your session, this will keep scuffs to a minimum. And when you're done, you can slip right back into the comfortable shoes.

SLEEP

If we have to explain this.... Turn that phone off. Now.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST

REST

Does this really need

further explanation?

In case you do...

The better rested you are before your portrait session, the better you'll feel during your portrait session. The better you feel during said session, the more you'll be able to give and the better your final images will look afterward.

And hammers for nails:

Yes, it's true that we don't always have the luxury of rest or time for it. And it's bonkers that in our society, time for rest is viewed as a luxury at all. With this in mind, consider that you can still choose to schedule rest into your life. Maybe it's just once every few months. But if you keep trying to make that happen, it can become a lifestyle for you.

And you'll feel better. Drinking water, minding your business AND resting? Can you imagine the possibilities!?
